The False Maid

October 23rd | 18:00 – ODEON Theatre Bucharest, Majestic Hall

A beautifully sketched comedy, with dramatic aspects and excellently constructed emotional conflicts, which gradually reveal the calligraphy of Alexandru Mâzgăreanu’s directing, the modernity of the set designer’s Andreea Sîndulescu stage simulacra, the fluency of the actors in interpreting the director’s instructions, who later turn into the core symbolism for the spectators to approach. The audience becomes their permanent partner through emotional and active involvement. The story sweeps you in and makes you responsible, never leaving you unmoved!

The False Maid or The Cunning Punished (La Fausse Suivante ou le Fourbe puni) was written by Marivaux in 1724 and is a burning reality. Love is only a pretext in Marivaux’s play and the whole action revolves around revenge. That of a woman who wants to teach the one who deceives her a lesson as well as all the women who allow themselves to be deceived, in a murky game of dissimulation of the social condition, of the confrontation of ideas and pride. Money, power and the war of the sexes are subjects of a disturbing modernity and psychological actuality and the characters of the 18th century become our contemporaries.
