The performance Elian’s Map reveals a universe where words are not just words but enigmas that need to be deciphered and our hero, Elian, is the pure essence of dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and upon closer inspection, dysorthographia —a jumble of conditions. His story is much more complex; he struggles to understand and adapt in a constantly changing world, navigating the challenges of his dyslexia in not so understanding school environment. Elian feels trapped in a sea of letters that refuse to speak to him.
However, when he opens up to specialists, he begins to build his own map of the world, a conceptual map that uncovers the paths and possibilities hidden inside his own mind. Through this map, Elian learns to make associations that transform his way of perceiving texts and to see beyond letters, hence having new horizons open up to him. He comes to understand that power thorough self-acceptance and wisdom can come from the most unexpected places and that our differences are what truly make us unique and special.
