October 24th | 17:00 – Excelsior Theatre, Ion Lucian Hall

«The theme of the performance Peony is a delicate yet precise one: How can we speak about sex education in schools? I think we all have experiences on it, especially when it comes to the first lessons learnt in school… meaning none. Peony is a ”gentle” comedy… because we made an effort not to judge other systems of thinking around sex education and different sexual orientations… it’s not a performance meant to scold people, it’s not a performance meant to find the guilty… it’s an invitation to talk warmly about what preoccupies all of us.» (Leta Popescu)

Peony is a show inspired by facts, taking the form of a meeting with the parents, called urgently following an unusual event that took place at the school in the 4th grade (A from “Attention, let’s leave with scandal!”). The prevailing feeling becomes one common to all, that of indignation at the proposal of teacher Peony to have an optional class on sex education. The characters were named with a lot of humor and irony: the alpha father, the beta father, the one who pretends to be knowledgeable, as well as the bossy, saintly and cautious mother. All of them, although representatives of different typologies, grew up in the same way, in a world where discussions about this topic were taboo and shameful, their discoveries from childhood and adolescence being played out in the performance through flashbacks that show us that “it’s not like that !”.
