The Seagull. A Comedy in Four Acts: A world filled with passionate people, indifferent to the suffering of those around them, who can only be saved by following their dreams.
Director Christian Benedetti, together with the cast, created the performance with careful attention to Chekhov’s vision of staging his plays. The design of the set that includes only the essential in order to convey the meaning, the interpretation according to the structures of a musical score (pauses, tempos) which highlights the thought behind the words, are the main directions that guided the artistic team’s work.
“You know, I would like someone to perform my plays in a very simple manner… Like in the old days… a room… in the foreground, a sofa, chairs… And then good actors performing… That’s all… I would love to see my plays represented in this way…” (A. P. Chekhov, quoted by Evtikhi Karpov in the book “Chekhov in Memories,” 1954)
