Performance in Romanian with English subtitles

Victims of Duty is a tragicomedy built like a game of mirrors, oscillating between the visible and the invisible, between the concrete and the ineffable while following its hero – an ordinary man, apparently without an identity of his own – on a bizarre yet both comic and tragic road he feels forced to undertake in his search for the roots of evil. Pushed, guided and challenged by equally kaleidoscopic characters that break the boundary between reality and fantasy, he travels this path in a fast-paced, thrilling detective foray into the three levels of human consciousness. A performance about the solitude of all human beings inside the Ionescian universe that don’t take the decisive step towards the crucible of terror either because they refuse, like Béranger, or because they don’t know how to approach it, like Choubert, the (anti)hero of Victims of Duty. The show also brings to life a somewhat different but all the more fascinating encounter with one of the most important voices in theatre history and the author of this play – Eugène Ionesco, someone that has a voice as recognisable as it is particular and personal.” (Codruța Popov)
