The careers of the two Ros\u00e9 violinists, like those of many other musicians, came to an abrupt end in 1938 when Austria was annexed by the Nazi Reich. Over 66,000 Austrian Jews fell victim to the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Alma Ros\u00e9 created and conducted the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp women&#8217;s orchestra. In doing so, she saved the lives of many Jewish musicians before she herself died in the camp in 1944. Her father, Arnold Ros\u00e9, died a few years later in exile in London. But the violins of the two musicians carry their story forward.
