*It all began as a dream of director Chris Simion-Mercurian—immediately embraced by Tiberiu Mercurian and completed by a community of 14,000 supporters. Today, this dream has become a reality. STORY OF A DREAM is an immersive journey into the birth of Grivița53 Theatre, the first theatre built in Romania in more than 75 years. Both an artistic and deeply personal human endeavor, the installation created by Maria Miu and Iuliana Vîlsan invites to a sensory exploration of the 9 years dedicated to this project, tracing its unseen stages: sacrifice, transformation, hope, and rebirth.
The starting point is a founding act of renunciation: the sale of Chris Simion-Mercurian’s grandmother’s house. Putting together the objects carrying the memories of that house in them, the installation creates fragile interiors filled with emotional echoes; an affective and documenting visual diary. The grandmother’s house becomes the symbol of the dream’s genealogy: a new house resurrects out of a loss. A heritage building is saved and transformed into a living space of creation. Thus, Grivița53 is both the continuation of an intimate memory and an architecture of the future built from fragments of the past.
The installation brings together authentic objects, photo and video journal fragments, unspoken testimonies, unvoiced thoughts, and emotions sedimented over a decade. It offers to the visitor the possibility to live through an experience of becoming: the exhibition space becomes a stage for an inner construction that may help you find your own dream, perhaps.
This is more than an exhibition about a theatre. It is an artistic confession about the courage to dream, about loss as the foundation of creation, and about the fragile force of personal memory transformed into collective heritage.
UNITER is honored and moved to give the story of Grivița53 time and cultural space for exposure, inside its own story, the story of the 35th edition of the Romaninan National Theatre Festival.
