In a distant past and village, Father and Mother perish in the fire that consumes their home, leaving Niculae, the eldest son, as head of the family. He raises his sisters with an iron hand, toiling endlessly amid the ruins of what was once a prosperous household. When an even greater misfortune befalls the family and the supernatural crosses their threshold, the tools passed down from father to son turn into perilous weapons.
