Queen of the Night is the meeting place with the bittersweet and humorous memories from the yard of the house where we grew up. A performance that brings with it 17 characters, 17 stories unfolding in a charming village in Moldova, a place that bears the scent of a broom sprinkled with water, and the fragrance of the night-blooming Jasmine, a place where time seems to stretch endlessly. A place deserted by our parents and grandparents, a house that now contains nothing but  the memory of them.”

Queen of the Night is a contemporary theater performance, written and directed by Leta Popescu, a nostalgic comedy that unfolds in a tonic atmosphere, full of humor and irony, with strong lyrics, takes the characters and the audience on a journey to the places of their childhood in the past, in the countryside, at their grandparents’.

I wrote Queen of the Night with the place of my childhood in mind, and the actors proposed texts and stories with the atmosphere of the traditional village in which they grew up. In this show, we celebrate the universe of the countryside by carrying forward a few love stories and by criticizing some of its instances, when tradition is not always the best life option. A show devised with joy and with a tear in the corner of the eye. Both are dedicated to our spectators who grew up in the countryside. Or not. (Leta Popescu)
