Bernard-Marie Kolt\u00e8s (1948\u20131989) was a French playwright, writer, and theatre director, regarded today as one of the essential voices of contemporary theatre. He discovered theatre at the age of 20, when he attended a performance of<\/span> Medeea<\/span><\/i> starring Maria Casar\u00e8s \u2014 an experience that left deep markes and inspired him to start writing. In Strasbourg, he founded the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Quai company, where he presented his first texts.<\/span><\/p>\n

His breakthrough came in 1983, when Patrice Ch\u00e9reau staged <\/span>Black Battles with Dogs<\/span><\/i>, marking the beginning of a collaboration that would continue with several landmark productions. Kolt\u00e8s\u2019 work stands out for its poetic density, thematic boldness, and innovative dramatic structures, which opened new perspectives on the language of theatre.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
