C\u0103t\u0103lina falls in love with an unattainable Luceaf\u0103r \u2014 the Evening Star from Mihai Eminescu\u2019s famous poem \u2014 projecting onto him the promise of a \u201ccosmic marriage\u201d that would rescue her from earthly constraints. In counterpoint, her mother seeks the security of a marriage with C\u0103t\u0103lin \u2014 a prosperous, pragmatic, pleasure-seeking young man \u2014 and discreetly steers the story toward a \u201creasonable\u201d ending. Between the fascination with the absolute and the comfort of social convention, C\u0103t\u0103lina navigates a labyrinth of desires, family pressures, and romantic illusions.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The reading is part of the\u00a0 <\/b>Romanian Playwriting Competition A space for Romanian dramaturgy within the National Theatre Festival program of the festival<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The three Romanian projects selected by <\/span>Mihaela Michailov<\/b> (playwright, performing arts critic, and curator of the staged reading program at FNT), <\/span>Raluca C\u00eerciumaru<\/b> (playwright, theatre critic, and Head of Communication at Masca Theatre), <\/span>Catinca Dr\u0103g\u0103nescu<\/b> (director, playwright, and manager of Masca Theatre), <\/span>Leta Popescu<\/b> (director, playwright, and Artistic Director of \u201cFani Tardini\u201d Theatre, Gala\u021bi), <\/span>Radu Horghidan<\/b> (actor, playwright, and co-initiator of <\/span>Proiect 9. Contemporary Romanian Theatre<\/span><\/i>, Gala\u021bi), and <\/span>Bobi Pricop<\/b> (director, artistic director of \u201eRegina Maria\u201d Theatre, Oradea, and coordinator of the FNT staged reading module) will be presented as performative readings during this year\u2019s edition of the Romanian National Theatre Festival.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sought after were comedic and political satire texts that highlight the comic and satirical potential of contemporary realities, exploring current forms of humor and dramatic scripts centered on radical perspectives and representations of pressing social or political issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 2025\u20132026 season, the plays will be produced by the three partner theatres: Masca Theatre, Bucharest, \u201eFani Tardini\u201d Theatre, Gala\u021bi and \u201eRegina Maria\u201d Theatre, Oradea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
