The famous Polish stage director [b]Krzysztof Warlikowski[/b] confirmed his participation in the Bucharest Festival with [i]Dybbuk[/i], after Solomon Ansky’s classical text and Hanna Krall’s contemporary story. After the premiere in Avignon in 2003, the show was performed at the DIALOG International Theater Festival in Wroclaw, Poland, Hebbel Theater in Berlin, Bouffes du Nord, Paris, and in 2004 it was invited to BAM’s Next Wave Festival in New York. In the summer of 2008, the show participated in the Edinburgh Festival, and in September, the same year, it was performed at the Israel Festival, among other events scheduled for Poland Year in Israel in 2008-2009. About the work of one of the most appreciated young European staged directors of the moment, Warlikowski, winner of the New Theatrical Realities award in 2008, the essayist George Banu wrote, in the preface to Théâtre Ecorché, published by Actes Sud: “Warlikowski’s theater is focused on the issue of youth confronted with the disasters and disillusionments of the world. It brings onto the stage the fate of fallen angels, the circumstances of collapse. (…) Survival seems forbidden to these heroes deprived of purity, in search of love: failure uplifts them. They are misfits, their wings are burned despite their wish to reach what they need. There will always be an absent something that torments us. Only through pain do they still hope to fill this absence. These are the cornerstones of this modern lyricist.” The show is scheduled to take place at the Great Hall of the National Theater in Bucharest on Tuesday, November 2, at 20.00 and Wednesday, November 3, at 18.00. Cantacuzino nr. 1), in a special conference with Krzysztof Warlikowski, the theater theorist and critic George Banu, and the author of Théâtre Ecorché, the Polish theater critic Piotr Gruszczynski. On Krzysztof Warlikowski’s first visit to Romania, the Camil Petrescu Cultural Foundation will launch the Romanian version of the book Théâtre Ecorché, supported by the Polish Institute in Bucharest and the National Theater Festival.
