The NTF kicks off tomorrow

The National Theater Festival kicks off tomorrow in Bucharest! The official opening is taking place on Friday, 25 October at 20:30, at Odeon Theater, to be followed by a theatrical legend. After 23 years (the age of the Festival), Andrei Şerban’s The Trojan Women returns to Bucharest, now as a production of the Iaşi National Romanian Opera, played by its soloists, choir, orchestra and ballet, alongside young actors and children. For the first time in the history of the show, first staged almost 40 years ago at La MaMa Theater in New York, and in 1990 by the Bucharest National Theater, The Trojan Women employs the original version of the music composed by Liz Swados for the opera. The five shows scheduled in the NTF will be attended by the stage director, who is also the protagonist of another important event: on Saturday, 26 October, Löwendal Foundation is hosting the launching of a document-book about a unique phenomenon: ANDREI ŞERBAN Traveling Academy / The Workshop Book, published by Nemira.

“Chronologically”, the first day of the festival, Friday 25 October, starts with the premiere of Faust, a film directed by Alexander Sokurov, distributed in Romania by Transilvania Film and scheduled at Cinemateca Union at 17:00. In the Festival films section, two other films are scheduled for subsequent days: Somewhere in Palilula, directed by Silviu Purcărete, and Silent Wedding, directed by Horaţiu Mălăele.

Also on Friday, 25 October, but at 18:00, Löwendal Foundation is hosting the opening of the exhibition Imaginary Spaces (maquettes, sketches, video) and the launching of volume 2 of Stürmer/Stage Designs, published by Idea in Cluj. The exhibition of the set designer Helmut Stürmer will be open between 25 October-30 November.

Tomorrow, the National Theater Festival kicks off! Ten days (a fortunate number) lie ahead for Bucharesters to enjoy theatrical shows and events. Let us take advantage!
