On the 28th of October, the day which marks the middle of the National Theatre Festival, one can count 16 events meant to enrich the portfolio of the theatre loves within the capital- from grand openings, exhibitions and book launches, conferences and workshops, but especially strong shows, invited at the NTF from Târgu-Mureş, Craiova, Cluj and Bucureşti.

In the Small Hall Foyer of the National Theatre of Bucharest, the public continues to enjoy free entry at the refined exhibition of Doina Levintza, called “The Theatrical Costume- from drawing board to Miracle.” Ten directors with whom the great artists worked throughout her time, over fifty costumes and numerous photographs and sketches make up the event-exhibition which is dedicated to her and is open to the public from 10.00 AM to 4.00 PM and 6.00 PM to 11.00 PM.

At the “Ion Manu” Cultural Centre in Otopeni, which entered this year’s National Festival circuit, the people interested in the history of Romanian Theatre have the opportunity to enter the athmosphere of the first half of the last century, the foyer of this cultural establishment being, beginning yesterday, the host of remembering an epoch and the creation of the man whose name it bears: Ion Manu (1881-1968)- a complex personality, film and theatre actor, writer, poet, radio performer, an example of what it meant to be a truly cultural man at the beginning of the 20th Century, when besides talent and the gift, you had to have a vivacious spirit, anchored in the daily social reality.

A fellow of the National Theatre of Iasi, an Actor Emeritus of the National Theatre of Bucharest, tireless in the pursuit of human nature, he managed to become known and loved on-stage, as well as on the radio waves, at the show called “Happy Hour”.

The grand opening of the exhibition called “Ion Manu the actor- bon homme comedy and subtle irony” took place last night, in the presence of his daughter, distinguished professor and director Sanda Manu. The manifestation enjoyed the presence of a numerous ,warm audience.

Another trademark grand opening of the NTF shall take place this evening, at the Epika Hall of the Grand Cinema&More / Baneasa Shopping City, continuing the Romanian poetry and music recital , “Words words, words…” ,given by Ion Caramitru alongside Adrian Naidin (cello), that is to say around 9.30 PM. “Peerless professor- glory unto thee!” is the name of the exhibition dedicated to this colossus of Romanian theatre, his disappearance from the boards of the stage, which he served with devotion , reaching the 20 year mark.
George Banu and “The Curtain or the fissure of the world”

The NTF series of Conferences named “Polyphonies: Theatre and the other Arts” continued today, at the Small Hall of the National Theatre of Bucharest. Held by reputable essayist and academic scholar George Banu, the conference whose theme is “The Nights of Painting, the Nights of Theatre” was meant to be a true melange of the arts, also enjoying the participation of pianist Ioana Lupaşcu and actor Ion Caramitru.
Also regarding the name of professor George Banu, a guest of the Festival, is the book launch at the Humanitas Bookstore in Cişmigiu, where, from 7.00 PM, the tome of “The Curtain or the Fissure of the World” shall be unveiled by the same George Banu (photo) (Humanitas Publishing House, Bucharest, 2012).

The author proves that it, the Curtain, extends further than the world of the stage, and that social protagonists, like actors, always emerge linked to a curtain, which confirms their prestige and underlines the roles they play on the “Stage of the World” . An invitation for the reader that’s interested in discovering what lies behind the curtain, and only then, being initiated, may he enjoy access to the world’s unity.
“This book was born of passion, and by that I don’t mean to say I’m a philosopher or that I dedicated my life to it: the Curtain is a metaphor of the fissure of the world. It shatters the unity and uncovers all that it camouflages. It divides beings into actors and viewers, be they hypothetical , placed in front of a painting or directly seen in the hall. The curtain protects the secret and maintains hope in a perpetually possible discovery…” /George Banu
