Strong start to the week, alongside the NTF

The fourth day of the National Theatre Festival has no less than 13 events scheduled: conferences, workshops, exhibitions, book launches and, of course, theatre shows, invited over from Cluj, Târgu Mureş, Sibiu and Bucharest, as well as TV theatre.

The fourth day of the National Theatre Festival has no less than 13 events scheduled: conferences, workshops, exhibitions, book launches and, of course, theatre shows, invited over from Cluj, Târgu Mureş, Sibiu and Bucharest, as well as TV theatre.

On Monday, the “Theatre journalism- anatomy of a theatrical performance” workshop will make its debut, under professor and theatre critic Marian Popescu. 32 young artists enrolled in this workshop which will span 6 days and be held in one of the alternative spaces of the Capital- Club Control.

The NTF Conference, “Polyphonies: Theatre and the other Arts” shall also be inaugurated on Monday, at 11:00 AM, at the National Theatre of Bucharest’s Small Hall, by miss Monique Borie, academic and prestigious theoretician from France. The festival’s guest shall give a lecture titled “Theatre and Sculpture- horizon of the actor”. The conference shall enjoy Romanian subtitles.

At the Humanitas bookstore in Cismigiu, Vlad Zografi will launch two of his most recent books within the NTF: “Infinity within” (Humanitas Publishing House, Bucharest, 2012) and “All your minds” (Humanitas Publishing House, Bucharest, 2011).

“Infinity within” is a bet by the author, “that from the matter of theatre and literature one can obtain a construct, if not impeccably articulated, at least open to coherent speculation”, while “All your minds” is built as a collection of short plays on the troubles of the world today.

In another space which the National Theatre Festival intends to bring to the public’s view- the “Ion Manu” Cultural Centre in Otopeni- there shall be held, on Monday evening, at 9:45 PM, the grand opening of a refined exhibition, dedicated to a complex man of theatre, radio, as well as a great publisher- “Actor Ion Manu- Bonhomme humour and the subtle irony”. Visitors may witness a successful remembrance of the age and the work of Ion Manu (1881-1968) in which photos, boxes of manuscripts and books, objects which belonged to the artist, as well as a musical background from “Happy Hour” will bring back to the present day a personality which spanned the length of Romanian theatre.

The National Television Theatre joins the NTF by airing, on TVR 2 on Monday evening, one of Chekhov’s masterpieces, “Uncle Vanya”, directed by Yuri Kordonsky, a recording from 2013. A coproduction of TVR and the “L.S. Bulandra Theatre”.

8:00 PM Metropolis Theatre / “Tartuffe or the Impostor” by Moliere. Stage direction by Victor Ioan Frunză, the Metropolis Theatre of Bucharest- 1h 20 min, no intermission

8.30 PM “Ion Manu” Cultural Centre Otopeni- “Mozart Steps”. A show of choreographic theatre by Gigi Căciuleanu, the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre of Sibiu- 1h 05 min, no intermission
