The National Theatre Festival cares for the new generation of actors and their evolution
In 2014, the NTF team took the responsibility to produce the music hall „West Side Story” / a performance of great stamina, a total winner, from both points of view: that of the audiences and that of 22 young actors selected together with Marina Constantinescu, Răzvan Mazilu and Adrian George Popescu. Their dedication and level of performance on stage have confirmed the statement under which this co- production of the NTF with the Odeon Theatre was launched: „Manifest of a Generation”.
We are now continuing this project about the young generation. We have identified some major issues, in our society. Through this „Manifest for Dialogue”, the art of theatre, will function as an intermediary and launch a public debate.
During the 25th edition of the NTF we will initiate, as a result the partnership between two of the strongest theatre events in Romania, the National Theatre Festival and The International Theatre Festival Sibiu and with the generous contribution and support of BRD / Groupe Société Générale, a platform called „Manifest for Dialogue”, that will develop around the performance „Antisocial”, created by the director Bogdan Georgescu, based on a text generated together with the seven actors through techniques of Active Art during a workshop initiated by the „Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu and the Drama and Theatre Studies Department of the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu.
„Antisocial” speaks about the fracture within the dialogue between youngsters and their teachers and parents, a fracture that becomes even more severe through the unprecedented development of information technologies and about the evolution we live through in this third millennium, together. Apparently. „Antisocial” speaks about the absence of a normal and moral Education Law in Romania, without accusing, but challenging us to meditate, to search for the truth, to debate and to hopefully identify solutions.
This project aims at inviting to a constructive dialogue between all parties involved: youngsters, teachers, parents, decision makers, civil society, starting from the case presented in the play and leading to real solutions. The conclusions of the public debates will be presented to the officials, in order to accelerate the finalization and enforcement of a Law of Education in Romania, based on worthiness, respect and dialogue.
