Just two days till the Official Opening of the 25th edition of the National Theatre Festival.  An exceptional edition, an anniversary of a quarter of a century of extraordinary stories on the stages of Romanian theatre.

Weather is dark and cool, still the last days of October are shiny in Bucharest. There is this beautiful fervor in the Passage, with all these booming cultural events in Bucharest and beyond (some of the NTF performances will be transmitted live to Braşov, Piteşti, Timişoara, Constanţa as well as to Paris, Vienna, Kishinev – more information on www.fnt.ro).

For 10 days, the NTF Passage alters the cultural geography of central Bucharest and offers the audiences the opportunity to meet some of the actors who are part of the casts of the festival performances. On Tuesday, October 20th, the passers by could stop for an encounter with Daniela Nane, a stunningly beautiful woman and an actress of the Bulandra theatre for many years now. Charmed by the posters of the exhibition „Posters in Time. The Time of the Theatre”, dedicated to this anniversary edition of the NTF, Daniela Nane stepped onto the stage dressed up in the NTF Passage to speak to the audiences about the production of the „Lucia Sturdza Bulandra” Theatre  Bucharest “Conversations after a Burrial”, by Yasmina Reza, translated by the late Alex Leo Şerban.

Alexandru Darie directed the play, with a cast including Cornel Scripcaru, Ana Ioana Macaria, Marius Chivu, Dan Aştilean and Camelia Maxim,  having had its premiere almost half a year ago and scheduled to perform during the NTF, on the 24th and 25th of October, at the Studio Space of the Bulandra Theatre.

Pompilius Onofrei, speaker of the NTF, presented Daniela Nane and the performance „Conversations After a Burrial”  and expressly mentioned the fact that these performances have a special emotional load. „In December 2014, at the moment of the premiere, there was a big critical acclaim, coming from an important number of observers of the Romanian theatrical phenomenon, especially because this marked Alexandru Darie’s return upon certain coordinates that created a very powerful impression at his beginnings as a director.

The actress expressed her joy regarding this new encounter with the “charm of the performances directed by Darie: “There are 6 characters, extremely different from each other, extremely complex and difficult  to play. Each of them is in a universe in his own.” The play oozes an acute Chekhovian feel”, coming not so much from the writing, but from the staging, from the exceptional style of the director. „When I first read the play, I found it terribly boring” said the actress, but the director’s eye succeeded to retrieve meanings that maybe not even the author of the play had thought of. The play offers two levels of deciphering and in the end “we discover there is a third reception level, which finally gives us the key to the characters. We have six characters in their quest of happiness, of the joy of living. This is, after all, a deeply human feeling, the rush in search of happiness. «This Eliza, your character, is a cow» the director told me in the beginning. Surely. But you can’t act stupid if you’re not clever” Daniela Nane added.

When asked if now, almost one year after the premiere, “Conversations” still is a fresh performance, the actress said:  „It’s fresh every evening for the audience coming to see it for the first time. I say this, because there were people who came to see it two, three times, so they get to understand more of the meanings of the play.”

Apart from her participation at the NTF, Daniela Nane plays at the Bulandra Theatre in „The Good Person of Szechwan” (directed by Andrei Şerban), ” A Lost Letter” (directed by Doru Ana, a performance that stayed on the repertoire for eight years now ) and „Mamouret” (directed by  Dinu Cernescu), with Tamara Buciuceanu playing the lead.

„The ephemeral character of theatre is part of its absolute charm” said Pompilius Onofrei, to conclude the encounter with Daniela Nane, who offered autographs to her fans.
