At this 25th edition, we continue to cultivate the international dimension of the event and the illustration of contemporary European theatre making.

Foreign guests will have an important role to play within the festival. Three foreign performances from abroad („Front”/Frontul / directed by Luk Perceval, „The War”/ Războiul / directed by Vladimir Pankov and „Tiger”, directed by Sofia Jupither / Sweden) as well as personalities from the theatre world will come to Bucharest in the following days and encounters with young Romanian actors have been scheduled.

A representative moment of the festival will be workshop for actors, titled „Peace for the Monkey Mind” run by the director Luk Perceval. The well-known Belgian director will share his personal solutions, results of an intense artistic experience, a harmonious interlacing of yoga technics and working with actors on texts by William Shakespeare and Jon Fosse.

Tiger”/„Tigrul”, a performance invited from Sweden is the most recent European staging of Gianina Cărbunariu’s piece of dramatic writing “The Sibian Tiger”, directed by Sofia Jupiter, at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, a collaboration of the Romanian Cultural Institute, the producers of the performance and the Royal Swedish Theatre, through the international artists encounters program „Dramaten&”. The text is an investigation mockumentray in which all witnesses are questioned after a tiger breaks out of the zoo of a small town. The performance focuses on the reactions of compact social groups when confronted with a different, unknown element.

The technologic advance of our times, the connection to state of the art live broadcasting equipment will serve the festival as well, with the generous support offered by Grand Cinema & More Băneasa Shopping City / Bucharest.

For the first time in Romania, the NTF launches live broadcasts of some of the most sought after performances in the festival program: „Mein Kampf”, a production of the “Lucian Blaga” National Theatre Cluj Napoca (the festival’s opening performance), “The Star Without a Name”, production of the „Nicolae Bălcescu”  European Cultural Centre for UNESCO, Bucharest and “Buffalos. Urban Fable #2”, produced by the „Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu. The live broadcasts will be viewable in five Romanian cities (Bucureşti, Braşov, Constanţa, Piteşti, Timişoara), and also at the Romanian Cultural Institutes in Vienna and London and at the „Mihai Eminescu” National Theatre in Kishinev, as a result of a partnership deal between the NTF and the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI).

Continuing an initiative launched in 2014, the portal adevărul.ro will live stream festival performances every day, adding live interviews that are to be presented on a daily basis from October 15th to November 2nd.

We will also continue to stay very close to people in the most direct way. From October 19th to November 1st, he University Square underground passage will be transformed into the “NTF Passage”.  In this context, the audience will be offered numerous opportunities to directly get in touch with some of the most beloved artists present at the festival, by creating a point of encounter and organizing autograph and photo sessions.  Theatre aficionados will be invited to view live broadcasts of interviews and performances, to take part into exciting contests, together with festival guests.  All this interactive effervescence will take place in a space adorned by the posters exhibition dedicated to the 25 years of the NTF/ „Posters in  Time. The Time of  the Theatre”.
