OPENING
5 November | 16:00 – I. L. Caragiale National Theater Bucharest Ion Caramitru Hall (Grand Hall, Tapestry Foyer (1. floor)

It’s been a year since actor, director and theater manager Ion Caramitru left the stage of life. It is therefore time to remember him not just in those roles, but also as a Human Being. Beyond the stage.

In his memory, on the occasion of the start of the 2022 NTF, the exhibition Caramitru – Beyond the stage will be opened, including new pictures that have never been seen by the audience before.

These images capture Ion Caramitru not just as an actor, on stage, from various moments the photographer was a witness to: from the decoration of Caramitru at the Cotroceni Palace to various tours and meetings with personalities of the world of arts and sports, photographs from rehearsals, funny or unpleasant moments inside the theater.

During the past seven years, Florin Ghioca (who is official photographer of the National Theater in Bucharest) has managed to capture a few moments from Caramitru’s life, now presented for the first time ever, in the Foyer of the hall who bears the name of the great deceased.

„Ion Caramitru was a discreet person, whom I rarely managed to photograph beyond the stage, when he was not acting. But there have been times when I dared to sneak into the backstage of his theater life and capture a few unique moments. In this exhibition you will see him in situations the audience is less used to see him in, alongside people he cherished. Among them Prince Charles, Simona Halep, Mihail Șora, Ilinca Tomoroveanu, Ana Blandiana, Andrei Pleșu, Petru Hadârcă, Victor Rebengiuc and Mariana Mihuț, Horațiu Mălăele, as well as Maia Sandu or Klaus Iohannis. You will see him with his family. You will see him as you have never seen him before: Pino!”(Florin Ghioca)
