A theater photography exhibition (accompanying the “Five Fold Knot. A Few Approaches in Theater” volume by Cristina Rusiecki)

“Elegantly dressed, a woman picks flowers on stage. Naked, like a sculpture, another is threatened by a man who pours gas on her. Other women, as fairies, have found refuge in a transparent pyramid. Another has integrated into a plant, dreamlike setting. A few bodies flow suspended in the air. In an academic painting-like landscape, from a bygone time, another woman is sucking on a cigarette…

Women in various stances and times. With different gestures and attitudes, from classical beauty to activism. From dream to demands. From illusion and grace to humiliation and danger. When I started to select the photos for the exhibition accompanying the book, I did not intend to create an exhibition with a theme. Just as, in my book, I did not intend to pursue what connects the researched creators, but on the contrary to underline the diversity of the evolution of contemporary Romanian theater, neither was this exhibition meant to approach one single topic. But it turned out that the expressiveness of female situations have step by step made the woman become the main character of it.! (Cristina Rusiecki)
