The Multimedia Dictionary of Romanian Theater is a digital platform created in order to provide new, specialized content, but also to coagulate the information already available online about legendary artists and cult performances of Romanian theater.

This is the platform’s third edition. While the research for previous editions focused on the modern period of Romanian theater, 1950-1990, in 2022 the MDRT (DMTR) has documented the memory of theater between 1989-2000. Great directors who are still landmarks of the Romanian theater movement – – Andrei Șerban, Silviu Purcărete, Mihai Măniuțiu, Gábor Tompa, Alexandru Darie, Victor Ioan Frunză, Alexandru Dabija – created during those years performances that define the recent history of Romanian theater and deserve their place in the cultural memory of Romanian stage. The Golden Generation actors have reached artistic maturity in that period, giving us their greatest roles.

The profiles of artists and performances are put together by a complex team of over 50 theater professionals, who have written articles from a contemporary perspective, and students at theater universities, who have gathered related content for each of them. The author of this concept, theater critic Cristina Modreanu, explains: “We worked very closely with our colleagues form the Babeș-Bolyai University and the Arts Faculty in Tg. Mureș, particularly with professors Miruna Runcan and Raluca Blaga, in order to set the new entries lists for the dictionary, to coordinate the students and authors and to complete the multimedia profiles.”

Currently, the project includes 150 entries in the dictionary.
