The film influenced the work of Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman to such a degree, that in the 70s he declared, “Knowing Victor Sjöström (…) was for me an incredible experience. It all started early, with Körkarlen. I must have been 12 or 13 then. It impressed me deeply, I was profoundly touched. I could not understand much at that time, but I was awed by its cinematographic force.”
